Workshop in Istanbul Discusses the Reality of Women in Gaza

Al Khair Foundation organized a workshop titled “Women of Gaza: Between Fear and Hope – What It Means to Be a Woman in Gaza” in Istanbul, with broad participation from representatives of humanitarian organizations and activists in the relief sector.

The workshop was attended by more than 55 participants, including representatives of civil society and humanitarian organizations such as the Turkish Red Crescent, the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), Doctors Worldwide (Yeryüzü Doktorları), Hayrat Foundation, Umuda Koşanlar Association, Aile Foundation, İyilikhane, Mavera, and Ensar Foundation, in addition to a number of researchers and individuals interested in humanitarian issues.

Women in Gaza: A Symbol of Resilience Despite War

Throughout its sessions, the workshop discussed the reality of women in the Gaza Strip amid the severe humanitarian conditions resulting from war and blockade.

Speakers emphasized that women in Gaza are not merely victims of war; they also represent one of the most powerful symbols of social resilience, bearing significant responsibilities in maintaining family cohesion and sustaining daily life despite destruction and hardship.

Participants also noted that Gazan women have become a global example of perseverance and determination, given their central role in supporting families and communities during times of crisis.

The Sumud Flotilla and International Solidarity with Gaza

One of the key themes of the workshop focused on the Sumud Flotilla initiative, which aims to break the blockade imposed on Gaza and strengthen international solidarity with the people of the Strip.

During the session, several activists shared their experiences in international initiatives supporting Gaza. They emphasized that these efforts are not limited to delivering humanitarian aid, but also aim to amplify the voice of the global humanitarian conscience and advocate for the rights of civilians in Gaza.

Testimonies from Women Who Lived in Gaza

The workshop also featured powerful testimonies from Turkish women who lived in Gaza for many years, offering the audience a firsthand perspective on daily life in the Strip.

The speakers addressed the major challenges faced by families and children during wartime, as well as the vital role women play in maintaining family stability and preserving life despite extremely difficult circumstances.

These testimonies had a profound impact on attendees, with emotional moments filling the room as stories and experiences from Gaza were shared.

Open Dialogue and Messages of Solidarity

At the conclusion of the program, an open discussion session was held, during which representatives of the participating institutions and guests exchanged their views and reflections on the topics discussed during the workshop.

Participants stressed that the event was not merely a platform for exchanging ideas, but also a humanitarian space for collective solidarity with the women of Gaza and an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among organizations supporting the Palestinian cause.

A Call to Strengthen International Solidarity with Women in Gaza

The workshop concluded with a call for continued international efforts to raise awareness about the struggles of women in Gaza and to expand humanitarian solidarity with them by supporting initiatives that help amplify their voices worldwide.

Participants affirmed that supporting Gazan women is a fundamental part of supporting Palestinian society in facing escalating humanitarian challenges.
