Zakat on gold and silver

Zakat is obligatory on gold and silver when they reach the nisab, whether in cash or bullion.

The nisab for gold is twenty mithqals or dinars, equivalent to eighty-five grams of pure gold.

Historians and legislators unanimously agree that Sharia specifies the official dinar's weight as 4.25 grams, thus making the nisab for gold 4.25 × 20 = 85 grams of gold.

As for silver: its nisab in modern weight is 2.975 × 200 = 595 grams of silver.
